Day sixteen - into the dunes

I am writing this at the end of the day, and we are nearly in Russia, well an enclave of Russia anyway. Kaliningrad is only a stones throw from where we are sitting on the Curonian Spit.

We left Liepaja in the morning after exploring some bunkery fort things, (its a Tracy thing) the night before.
Following the coast road we soon crossed into Lithuainia, all the old buildings were still there from the pre-european days.

We arrived at Kliapeda and stocked up on supplies, as we had decided to spend a coupe of days on the Crurionian Spit, and shops are few and far between. Getting there was a bit of a pain, we queued for two hours to get on the ferry, our fist traffic jam since leaving home. We paid our 70 Lita's for the ferry and another 70  Lita's to the Kursiu Nurija National Park to be able to drive to the dunes, which are impressive and are reputed to be as big as some of the dunes in the Sahara. They truly are an amazing sight.

To finish the day we walked into Nida  had banana crepes, ice cream and beer, Nida is a very pretty coastal village that faces the mainland of Lithuania, right on the edge of the border with Kaliningrad.

Tomorrow is a beach day and then its back down the spit to Kliapeda across the ferry again and off towards Poland. Finally our day sixteen selfie taken on top of the dunes
